In the Hotel

After 30 minutes on a bus we got to the hotel, and we were fascinated by the majestic entrance, it was huge. As soon as we got there, a guy came to us and took out baggage so that he can take it to our rooms, then another one came and offered us something to drink; this made me feel very good because it is what we want to see when we go a hotel on vacations. The hotel was all-inclusive; this means that if we wanted something to eat we could grab it and eat it. The Caribbean beach, when I first saw it I looked like I was hypnotized, it was beautiful and it was also warm water; I got into the sea and stayed there for 4 hours, until I was to hungry to continue. My trip was pretty fun.

When we got the hotel everyone was very kind, and they help us immediately. Something that I noticed right away was that they have a weird way of talking, not only the accent was different, which is expected to have when you go to different countries in Latino America, but they also talk very fast and they don’t pronounce correctly the words so it was kind of hard to understand what they were saying. Also the way they dress; they dress like any other tourist, with sandals, colorful shorts and obviously short sleeve shirts because of the high temperatures that they've got the entire year. There are almost no big cities in Punta Cana; they basically live in rural places.

Brief Summary of the History of the Dominican Republic

This is a brief summary of the history of Dominican Republic before and after the Spanish came. This island was populated by Taino Indians and this was their home country for hundreds of years. In 1492 Christopher Columbus went on his first voyage, he claimed the island as Spanish territory. Now-a-days, this is an independent island, which shares territory with Haiti (one of the poorest countries in the world). Some connections that I noticed between the Dominican Republic and the Peruvian are the history of the countries; they are both countries that were controlled by the Spanish for many centuries, and this is why the way our ancient buildings are very similar and when you go to old towns the little houses look the same.

Airport

Punta Cana had many similarities with Lima, when talking about culture, but there when some differences too (I will talk about some examples in the next entry). When we got there the first thing that surprised us was the airport; it looked very different from any other airport I have ever seen in my life; the airport was really small, it also felt like we were already in the hotel when we got there because of the funny details of the airport; it had stone walls, gigantic fans at the roof and all the decorations were as if you were already in a beach hotel. Why did I go?

On April, 2011 in went to Punta Cana for the second time in life; and it was the best trip of my life. It was my grammas 70th birthday and she asked all her family if they could go with her and celebrate her birthday there, and so we did. It was also the first time I went to a trip with my cousins, they are the best and I like spending time with them. In the end we were about 13 people; me and my family, two uncles of mine, my grandparents and my cousins family, which were four more. The airport was one of the best parts of the trip, because we had a great time there. And then, of course, we got to the hotel and it was astonishing, we had everything we could imagine in there and more.
